Austrian Airlines launches flights to Zaporizhzhia

Austrian Airlines will fly to Zaporizhzhia in Ukraine from 17 May

The route is being offered for the first time and will be served three times a week with an Embraer 195. An increase to a daily connection is planned in the course of the summer. Austria’s home carrier is thus strengthening its presence in Ukraine. In addition to Zaporizhzhia, the program already includes Kyiv, Lviv and Odesa. Today’s announcement of the new route comes on a special day. On 1 April 1991, Austrian Airlines flew to Ukraine for the first time. The destination was Kyiv.

“We are pleased to announce the launch of Zaporizhzhia on today’s 30th anniversary of our Ukraine connections”, says Austrian Airlines CCO Michael Trestl. “It not only strengthens our Ukraine offering, but also our traditionally strong network to Eastern Europe”.

“I’m glad to welcome Austrian Airlines in Zaporizhzhia International Airport! I am very pleased that Europe’s largest airline has decided to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first flight to Ukraine, opening a new flight from Zaporozhzhia. Due to this, the geography of the flights from our city has expanded even more and such a very beautiful city as Vienna has been added to it. I am sure that passengers will appreciate the new terminal of Zaporizhzhia Airport, which today is one of the most modern in Ukraine”, –  Volodymyr Buryak, Mayor of Zaporizhzhia.

“The beginning of cooperation with Austrian Airlines, an airline with an impeccable reputation, is a new page in the history of Zaporizhzhia International Airport. This is a sign of Lufthansa Group’s great confidence to the airport, recognition of reliability and high standards of aviation safety. We are very pleased to open regular flights to Austria, which will help strengthen cultural and business 2 relationship between our countries. And of course it is a new opportunity to travel around the world thanks to the convenient connections in Vienna”, – Oleksiy Dubrevskyy, Director of the Zaporizhzhia International Airport.

“We as Lufthansa Group believe in the recovery of the Ukrainian aviation market and therefore we continue to invest into Ukraine. It’s with huge pleasure for my team and myself that we can announce today, when we celebrate our 30th anniversary as Lufthansa Group in Ukraine, the new
services between Zaporizhzhia and Vienna as of May, 17th. I would like to thank the team of Zaporizhzhia airport for their support and looking forward to our future collaboration”, –  René Koinzack, General Manager Sales Ukraine, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

The Vienna-Dnipro route will no longer be operated due to its proximity to Zaporizhzhia. The two cities are only 85 km apart. On the Austrian Airlines website, passengers can find information on the topics of traveling in times of Corona, the obligation to wear a FFP2 mask, country-specific travel regulations or flexible rebooking arrangements.
